Pushing the boundaries of engineering innovation
How did you get into what you do?
I started at Phoenix as a Document Control Assistant. At the time, I was looking for a role that combined organisation, attention to detail, and process management, and document control fit that perfectly. I didn’t fully appreciate back then how central document control is to the success of a project, but I quickly saw the value of having strong processes and procedures in place.
What skills do you need to be good at your job?
You need to be incredibly organised, with strong attention to detail. But beyond that, communication is key, especially when you’re dealing with a large project team, external subcontractors, and tight deadlines!
Why is a Document Control Team important in our business?
Without proper document control, projects fall apart. We’re the gatekeepers of accuracy, version control, compliance, and traceability.
What has been your proudest achievement at Phoenix so far?
Implementing SharePoint across all new, and some existing, projects as our centralised document control system, and seeing it reduce errors, improve compliance, and make the running of document control on each project smoother—was a huge milestone. But even more than that is growing a team of three Project Document Controllers in 2023 to 20 in 2025.
What advice would you give to someone looking to get into what you do?
Be curious and pay attention to the details. Ask questions about why processes are in place, and don’t be afraid to suggest improvements. Learn the systems, but also understand the bigger purpose behind them. And most importantly, be dependable.
Why Phoenix?
Phoenix has always backed my development and given me opportunities to grow. The culture is one of collaboration, not hierarchy. You’re encouraged to speak up, to innovate, and to take ownership of your work. That’s not something you find everywhere.
